Lloyd Zimmer, Books and Maps began as a part time education and pursuit of my passion, in the early 1990s.  Initially buying and selling locally in Topeka, Kansas, I soon discovered the larger world of book selling as brought to me through AB Bookman, the better local antique malls, and the mentoring of established and long term booksellers throughout the central plans and beyond. 2001 brought about changes to my employment and work as a psychologist for the state, and I made the decision to “retire” early and go into bookselling on a full time basis.  At that time I opened a brick and mortar shop in downtown Topeka, Kansas which operated until 2013 when I found myself being lured away to be with the love of my life in Chanute, Kansas.  Unfortunately, rapidly deteriorating health with both of my parents put things on hold, and it was not until the summer of 2015 that Jackie and I found the perfect home in Chanute, and the business was moved there to operate from our home at 60 Poplar Heights Road.  Although you are always welcome to stop by during daytime hours (10-5:00), it is best that you make an appointment if you are travelling far.

I currently offer a selection of more than 5000 books of all genre, as well as more than 500 maps ranging from 15th century to early 20th. All of my inventory is hand selected and believed to be of significance for the collector, the reader, the historian or the general book lover.

In the 1980s, I started collecting Kansas history along with my father, and this is the area in which I developed my early expertise and perhaps the largest portions of my holdings.  However, over time, and especially while operating an open shop, I have expanded my interests and offerings to include quality collections of Natural History, Theology, Americana, Railroad, Travel and Exploration, Medicine, Art, and Psychology, Neurology, and Psychiatry.  Smaller, though intriguing collections of other genre are also a part of my holdings.  As I tend to view books as objects and artifacts, fine bindings, plates, and signatures and inscriptions are an important part of my inventory.  Appraisal, consultation, and collection development services are available.

If you are interested in books, maps, and/or ephemera, you have an invitation to come and visit my wife and me at our new home in Chanute… aptly dubbed “BookHaven.”  Rocky and his menagerie of goats, donkeys, and chickens keep us company, and a fresh pot of coffee is always ready.  Trade terms are available, and we always enjoy the company of other dealers
