London Longmans, Green, and Col. 1870 First Edition Half Leather - Hardbound Very Good No Dust Jacket Ernest Griset 
319 pages. Rebound by Root & Son (circa early 20th) with raised spine bands and gilt lettering/decoration. Top edge is gilded. Spine cover is just a little darkened, and the red leather on covers along spine shows a little white discoloration. Book plate on front paste down. Volume remains tight, and is otherwise clean and attractive. Although this is the first edition published by Longmans et al in 1870, it is unknown which issue as the different issue points are seen in the original binding (Penzer, 1923).

Copyright is 1855. pp; vi, 338 [10 pages of ads], plus three of four full page illustrations called for in contents. Lacking, "The Bear Servants" opposite page 49. Rebound with about 90% of the original cover laid over. Original cloth covers are faded. Moisture tide marks, foxing, and spotting scattered throughout. Paper loss at lower corner of Preface page, though with no loss of text. There are a few penciled underlines on contents page. Volume is tight and in good useable condition. Material is edited and re-worked from original source material provided by Henry R. Schoolcraft. Field (1873/1991) #1032.
