13 x 11 inch map, hand-colored steel engraved map showing the region just east of the River Jordan and the Sea of Galilee. The map was engraved by Robert Vaughan. Focus of this map in on the Tribe of Manasseh and the region of Gilead. To the west is the Tribe of Nepthali and the south is the Tribe of Gad. Bashan is seen near the center of the map, which is n ow known as the Golan Heights. Numerous images cover the map, including the typical mountains and forests, as well as many Biblical images. The title cartouche includes the emblem of the Tribe of Manasseh. A separate cartouche dedicates the map to Richardo Pigot who was its' financial sponsor. Thomas Full (1608-1661) was an English clergyman and scholar who wrote extensively about the history and geography of The Holy Land. Lacking the full funding necessary for publication of his works, Fuller would seek sponsorships and publish his books in parts. Each part would be dedicated to the sponsor on a map, as seen in this example. This map remains in near fine condition. The original hand coloring is contemporary to its publication and is still bright and vibrant. The paper shows a few very light wrinkles likely due to humidity exposure over its lifetime.
